Library Services

 

The Library staff is committed to assisting students, faculty, and staff to ensure access and successful use of all library resources, encouraging life-long learning and critical thinking skills. The staff provides training and guidance on both print and automated library resources. Upon request, the staff will provide individual library orientation, classroom library orientation, and bibliographic instruction in the library and online. Additional services include FAX, computers, WIFI access, scanners, inter-library loan, individual study carrels, group study rooms, Conference room, and copy services.  The Library also host the Anatomy and Physiology Model Lab.

Library Collection

The Library houses a collection of more than 28,455 books, 450,774 electronic resources,166 periodicals and newspapers, all of which cover diverse subject areas such as business, trade, technology, and health to support the College’s academic programs. Materials for personal growth, career development, and recreation are also available for those using the Library.

Online Resources

The Library has multiple online resources available to assist faculty, students, and staff of the College through GALILEO and Primo the online catalog.  GALILEO stands for Georgia Library Learning Online, an initiative of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. A World Wide Web-based virtual library, GALILEO provides access to multiple information resources, including secured access to licensed products. Participating institutions may access over 300 databases indexing thousands of periodicals and scholarly journals. Over 10,000 journal titles are provided in full text. Descriptions of databases are available online. Students have access to over 432,000 eBooks through Primo the Online Catalog or directly through GALILEO. The contracts between the College and GALILEO limit the use of these systems to faculty, students, and staff of the Columbus Technical College Library. Off-Campus Library Services

 

The Columbus Technical College Library supports the off campus instruction that includes, the Dual Enrollment program that serves the high schools in our service area. Instructors are contacted and advised of the available library services. Librarians provide off campus instruction of library resources to these classes.  Research instruction is provided upon request from instructors. Online resources are made available to all off campus students and faculty. Printed material is sent to off campus sites on request. Students have access to all resources with the one sign on password.  Passwords to all resources are provided on Blackboard, sent to instructors, sent by email or phone request to students, and provided to the high school media specialists. Off-campus students have full access to Columbus Technical College Library’s Primo Online Catalog, many online databases through GALILEO, the online Student Handbook for the Library, Program Guides, texting and chat services, and other instructional resources provided by GALILEO, and library orientation. Off-campus students are allowed to borrow books from the Library’s collection, use interlibrary loan services, and access any other Technical College System of Georgia College Library through a state-wide resource sharing agreement. The Library offers individual assistance from a librarian via email, chat, text, phone, fax or in person.
