EMS Professions Diploma

The Emergency Medical Technician to Advanced Emergency Medical Technician diploma program, EMS Professions, prepares students to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians perform interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found on an ambulance. The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system.

 

EMT, AEMT and EMT to AEMT Diploma Programs Available:

-       EMS Profession, EMT to AEMT (EP12)

 

Emergency Medical Technician Licensure:

 

-       Upon successful completion of EMSP 1110, 1120, 1130, 1150 and 1160, students may be able to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) EMT certification examination. http://www.nremt.org/

-       After successful completion of the NREMT examination for EMT, students may apply for Georgia state licensure through the State Office of Emergency Medical Services and Trauma (SOEMST). http://ems.ga.gov/

 

Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Licensure

-       Upon successful completion EMSP 1110, 1120, 1130, 1140, 1150, 1160, 1510, 1520 1530 and 1540, students may be able to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) AEMT certification examination. http://www.nremt.org/

-       After successful completion of the NREMT examination for AEMT, students may apply for Georgia state licensure through the State Office of Emergency Medical Services and Trauma (SOEMST). http://ems.ga.gov/

 

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Advanced Emergency Medic Technician Admission Requirements

Must have presented official documentation of an earned high school diploma or official GED scores to the Admissions Office

Emergency Medical Technician

  1. Be at least 18 years old.
  2. No provisional and/or special admission students considered for the program.
  3. Must have completed the following courses with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 in designated general education courses is required for admission into the EMS Programs of study:

-       ENGL 1010

-       MATH 1012

-       ALHS 1011: Structure and Function of the Human Body

-       ALHS 1090: Medical Terminology for Allied Health Science

-        PSYC 1010 (Must be completed prior to the completion of the EMS Professions program)

(Students may take higher level classes to substitute for above courses.  Students must take BIOL 2113 and BIOL 2114 and Labs to substitute for ALHS 1011).

  1. Must be enrolled as a Columbus Technical College student.
  2. Submit a EMS Pre-Admission packet containing the following (Packets must be completed and submitted by June 1st prior to Fall Admission, after that date packets will not be accepted):

-       Personal Data Form

-       Letter of Intent for admission into program

-       Medial Form (Page 1 and 2)

-       Immunization Form

-       EMT/Paramedic Technical Standards Form

-       Background Check and Drug Screening

  1. For Admission into the Advanced EMT portion of the EMS Certificate Programs you must meet the above requirements and:

-       Have a current practicing National Registry or Georgia State Emergency Medical Licenses, or

-       Have Completed the Above Requirements and EMSP 1110, EMSP 1120, EMSP 1130,

EMSP 1140, EMSP 1150 and EMSP 1160, and

-       Be enrolled and in good standing as a student of Columbus Technical College.

-       Student Background Check and Drug Screen

  1. New Admissions into the AEMT Program Submit a EMS Program Pre-Admission packet containing the following (Packets must be completed and submitted by March 1st prior to Summer Admission, after that date packets will not be accepted) :

-       Personal Data Form

-       Letter of Intent for admission into program

-       Medial Form (Page 1 and 2)

-       Immunization Form

-       EMT/Paramedic Technical Standards Form
